Which Key Sports are Beginning with K to Kickstart Fitness

Looking for some exciting yet healthy sports to engage in? We have a compiled a list of sports that start with K so that you can kickstart your fitness routine with some fun!

Kabaddi

A popular Asian sport which does not have much recognition as a sport in popular countries such as US and UK. Kabaddi is a popular combat sport played between two teams with seven players in each team.

The offense and defense team engage in a game of kabaddi with one player at a time from a team – regarded as a ‘raider’ entering the opponent’s court surrounded by the 7 players. The objective is to tap as many players as possible while trying not to get tackled by the opposing team players. Something that I remember from the first time I watched a game of Kabaddi was how the player who goes into the other half of the court shouts “Kabaddi, kabaddi!”. It was something unique that I had never seen before.

Karate

Like me, you may be reminded of the popular movie ‘Karate Kid’. As a teenager, I was quite fascinated by the concept of karate after watching the movie. This made me try out some karate moves on my siblings, just for fun.

So, let’s discuss what karate actually is. This Japanese martial art rose to popularity after the World War II. It consists of different fighting techniques such as kicking, punching and a few open-hand moves. While this a competitive sport with different international tournaments held around the world, you can also learn it for self-defense! Karate made its Olympic debut in 2020 with two styles of the sport played namely: Kumite and Kata.

Kayaking

This sport takes place on a kayak – a small boat that is rowed with a double-bladed paddle on alternate sides through a water body.

Kayaking is an excellent, recreational sport if you are looking for an adventurous, water sport to engage in. There are racing events held for this physically demanding solo sport such as freestyle kayaking, river racing and extreme kayaking.

Kickboxing

A fusion of boxing and karate; kickboxing is combat sport that involves fighting skills.

Some frequently played versions of this sport found in different countries include:  American kickboxing, Savate – French kickboxing and Sanda – Chinese kickboxing. Kickboxing is a great way to strengthen and tone your muscles and it also helps with fat loss. I highly recommend kickboxing to someone who is looking for a great fitness exercise/sport.

Kart Racing

This motor racing sport is an exhilarating activity. Kart racing takes place in a small, four-wheeled vehicle with some protective equipment.

This is a fun group and solo activity that is a great way to exercise too! I have always heard people who have tried kart racing share what an exciting and memorable experience it was. So, if you are looking for a fit and adventurous sport, then try this out!

Kitesurfing

This unique sport consists of using the wind to power a kite which pulls a rider across a water body, snow or land surface, while standing on a special surfboard.

Kitesurfing involves the elements of windsurfing, paragliding, and skateboarding.

My fondest memories of my childhood involve playing with kites. It was a source of entertainment for a lot of kids with the sky filled with kites, colors and happiness! Kitesurfing is still a least popular sport in many countries including US that I still have to try!
