How To Get More Energy In The Morning: 10 Tips

6 min read

Morning fatigue is something experienced by many and is quite normal. For those days where you have trouble shaking it off and don’t just want to overdose on coffee, here are some tips on how to get more energy in the morning, so you can have a productive day.

1. Splash Your Face With Water Or Take a Cold Shower

Something that wakes me up in the morning is washing my face with cold water. It’s sure to give you a jolt and energize you. If that doesn’t do the trick, I suggest hopping in the shower and switching the water to cold for the last 2 minutes. The temperature change will make your mind and body more awake, making it ready for the day.

2. Have Breakfast

According to WebMD, people who eat breakfast every morning report feeling less fatigued and stressed than people who skip it. So if you’re wondering how to get more energy in the morning, fuel your body with some nutritional food. Stick to high-fiber foods like fruits, oatmeal and whole-grain bread as they will keep you full for longer and keep your energy up.

3. Avoid Stimulants

While coffee, tea and other caffeinated beverages can give you a boost in the morning, having a lot of caffeine in the morning can actually negatively affect you by contributing to increased fatigue later in the day. Also, having too many stimulants in a day can then affect your sleep for the night, resulting in more fatigue the next morning.

4. Get Some Cardio In

I’m sure the last thing anyone wants to do in the morning is exercise, especially when you’re tired, but it may be exactly what your body needs to wake it up. Getting some cardio in the morning can help to get your blood flowing and make you feel more alert. Opt for simple activities such as a quick walk, a few jumping jacks or even dancing to your favorite song.

5. Drink Some Water

Fatigue can sometimes be a result of dehydration, so it’s good practice to drink some water first thing in the morning to give your body the hydration it needs. Drinking water also stimulates the organs and gets your metabolism running encouraging your body into a more wakeful state. Try adding a slice of lemon or cinnamon to your water to further stimulate the body.

6. Go Outside To Stimulate Your Brain

Another great way on how to get more energy in the morning is to step outside for a bit and experience everything that nature has to offer. Doing this can make you feel more alive, and it will get your body moving, shaking off any tiredness you experience.

7. Stretching

Performing simple stretches when you wake up can help to warm up your muscles and promote blood circulation in the body, making it easier to wake up. Activating your muscles can also cause them to release energy-stimulating endorphins. So take out 10-15 minutes in the morning, and do some light yoga or simple body stretches to boost your energy levels.

8. Get Some Sun

Sunlight can increase your body’s serotonin levels, leading to increased daytime energy. Light is also important to suppress melatonin, a hormone that is responsible for making a person sleepy. So take some time out in your morning to soak up some sun. If you don’t want to step outside, make sure your blinds are open so some light can come through your window.

9. Have a Nighttime Routine

The best tip on ensuring how to get more energy in the morning is to ensure you have good sleeping habits and a good nighttime routine. This means that you should be going to bed at around the same time every night to make sure you get adequate sleep (at least 7-8 hours). Also, make sure you have no screen time at least an hour before bed. This can help you fall asleep faster and have a better sleep.

10. Don’t Hit Snooze

Now you may not be happy to hear this, but hitting the snooze button and going back to sleep can hinder your ability to function throughout the day and will make you feel more tired when you wake up again. So when your alarm goes off in the morning, try to get out of bed immediately and resist hitting the snooze button. To make it easier, try keeping your alarm across the room so you have to get up to turn it off.
