Don’t you hate those days where you’re stuck inside with your kids due to bad weather, school closure or a pandemic? It can be hard to keep the kids entertained, especially if you’re not prepared. I’ve gathered a list of some ideas for rainy day activities for toddlers, so you can turn your rainy day into a memorable one.
Baking can be a great way to involve your kids. Get them to help by bringing you ingredients, and adding them and mixing them together. At the end of it all, you get to enjoy a delicious treat as well.
2. Play Balloon Games
Blow up some balloons and play some fun and innovative games with them. Some ideas include:
- Playing soccer with the balloons
- Playing catch
- Not letting the balloon touch the ground
- Monkey in the middle
Let your kids unleash their creativity by letting them paint. You can get creative and let them paint with their hands as well, making hand stamps.
Puzzles are a great way to pass some time and one of the many easy rainy day activities for toddlers. If there’s something you need to get done around the house and can’t attend your child, then get them to do a puzzle. Here are some of the ones I recommend for toddlers:

6. Read Books
Some kids love reading or being read to. If your toddler is one of those, then definitely snuggle up on the couch for some reading time.
If you don’t have the time to read out loud, there are many youtube videos that read stories to kids, as well as podcasts or audiobooks. Additionally, if you have a Google Home, Google Assistant can also read stories.
7. Create Pasta Jewelry
This is a great fine motor activity for toddlers. All you need is some string, pasta noodles, paint and markers. Make necklaces and bracelets and let them get creative in how they want to decorate them.
8. Do a Fashion Show
Let the kids raid your closet and have fun dressing up. You can then do a fashion show where everyone can show their looks. You can even incorporate the pasta jewelry into the looks.
9. Toy Bath
Gather up all the toys that could use a cleaning and soak them in the bathtub with soapy water. Get your toddler to play, clean and give them a bath.
Another idea for rainy day activities for toddlers would be to get them to play with play-doh. They can make a wide variety of things and you can even keep what they make and put it on display.

14. Shaving Cream
Letting your toddler play with shaving cream can be a great sensory activity for them. Squirt some shaving cream and let them play with it and have fun. It will keep them busy for a while.
For less mess and easy cleanup, I would recommend doing this in the bathtub, otherwise, make sure you put a towel down.
15. Make a Sensory Bin
Fill up a bin with rice and let your toddler scoop up and pour the rice into containers. You could even add in some small toys for them to find by digging. This is a great sensory activity to keep them entertained.
