1.Diving
This aquatic solo sport involves jumping from a height into the water from a diving board or a platform high above. Although, it may look easy, diving is not something anyone can do. You require strength and flexibility for carrying out this extreme sport.
An athlete performs acrobatic moves such as rolling or twisting while diving in the water. There are various types of diving including synchronized diving, cliff diving and fancy diving that are both competitive and recreational sports.
2.Downhill skiing
This is also commonly known as alpine skiing. Just as the name suggests, it involves skiers sliding down a slope which is typically covered in snow, from top to the bottom. It is recognized as an Olympic sport with other international championships held in snowy parts around the world. The bindings secure the ski boots to the special alpine skis for a strong grip.
3.Dodgeball
This may bring some childhood memories for a lot of us as this sport was played widely as a pastime activity for having such simple rules, back in the day. Dodgeball involves playing with a ball with teams of two who throw and catch the ball. Whoever gets hit by the ball is excluded from the game.
4.Drag Racing
This is an adventurous kind of motor racing sport where participants compete with each other in cars or motorcycles. It features a short path which is usually straight. Whoever reaches the finish line first wins the game. This sport was invented in 1940s.
5.Dog Sledding
This winter sport takes place in cold areas of US, Russia, Canada, and a few European countries where different dog sledding events are held. A team of sled dogs – dogs that are trained to pull vehicles in snowy areas are used to carry the sled with a person. Whoever covers the distance in the timed competitions first wins the race.
6.Disc Golf
Formerly known as frisbee golf, disc golf is an interesting invention of the two games of frisbee disc and golf. The aim is to cross the disc golf course from beginning to end with the fewest number of throws. The scores are rewarded in the same way as in the game of standard golf.
7.Downhill Mountain Racing
This is an extreme bicycle sport which involves a special type of bike which the players ride on a rough and unpaved terrain. The participants start from the top of the hill with some obstacles on their way and rock gardens that they have to cross in the shortest time possible.
8.Darts
Although it is not technically regarded as a sport, we have still added it to our list for being an interesting activity that you can play by taking turns with others which is competitive and fun!.
Darts may be an easy game to play but it requires focus and coordination with the aim to hit the target in the center or in the nearest ring possible.
9.Danish Longball
This game is an adaptation of the two popular sports: baseball and cricket. There are two teams with one fielding team and one batting team. Both the teams alternate between batting and fielding. Once the ball is hit with the bat, the player runs to the other side to a place called the ‘safe zone’.
The person batting has to complete a round by returning to the original position to score a run. In few games of this sport, just like in dodgeball if a person is hit with the ball, they are considered out. The equipment for Danish longball includes a tennis ball or a football, tennis racket or cricket bat and safety pads.
10.Decathlon
For the 10th sport that starts with D, we have chosen decathlon which is a group of 10 sports that take place in a span of 2 days! This involves track and field events that athletes compete in, including several running, jumping, and throwing games. Fun fact: the title for the ‘World’s Greatest Athlete’ is received by the player who wins the decathlon.
