The Handball Revolution: 5 Reasons Why It’s the Hottest Sport of the Decade

Handball is a popular team sport that is quite physically demanding. This is one of those sports that is similar to a game of football but with some different rules and techniques applied. The ultimate objective of the game is to throw the ball into the opponent’s goal, in order to win.

1. Handball is a fast-paced, dynamic group sport.

Handball is an active, team sport where a ball is passed through the court in different ways. Players are permitted to hold the ball for up to three seconds. What’s more, is that a defender can use their body to prevent the attacker from shooting the shot. Attackers attempt to break through the defense or shoot over the top of them to score a goal.

2. It offers a list of multi-skill health benefits for individuals.

Playing handball has some amazing physical as well as mental health benefits. Firstly, it is a great way to lose weight as it helps to burn calories. Handball helps with focus and coordination. It promotes better eye and hand coordination. Lastly, it encourages teamwork and helps in mental focus and clarity as well as helps to boost self-confidence.

3. The team that scores the most goals in a match is declared the winner.

A standard game of handball, as also played in the Olympic games consists of two halves of 30 minutes, a total of 60 minutes per match. Players of seven in a team, including one goalkeeper in each team compete against each other to score more goals.

Players are prohibited from touching the ball with their feet, except for the goalkeeper who can use his/her foot within the goal area.

4. It is a competitive team sport that involves several movements.

This distinguishes it from the other ball sports and makes up for a unique sport. Handball involves the actions of passing, receiving, shooting, receiving, dribbling, and tackling. However, it is a very physically challenging sport which makes it exciting to play. Offensive strategies are allowed during the play meanwhile, passive play calls for a warning and ultimately, the team has to give up the ball if continues.

Author’s opinion

Handball is a team sport that has been in play for a long time. Although, it may be looked at as one of the least popular ball sports – if compared to American football and soccer. But in terms of rules and play, it is actually quite an interesting ball sport that is fun to play with a group of people. I have also noticed a lot of championships and competitions held in the European countries, where it is most popular. If you are looking for a new sport to try out, then I highly recommend playing Handball.
