You don’t need anything special to clean a marble surface. Most marble surfaces can be cleaned with a soft cloth along with some warm, soapy water. You can also try using a stone cleaner if you wish. Both of these methods will remove all of the dirt from the surface. Just be sure to thoroughly dry the area afterwards to not leave any water stains.

Avoid using Windex, bleach, vinegar, or other acidic cleaners as they will do more damage than good. The acidity in these substances will eat into the marble and dull the surface. Also, stay away from using anything abrasive so as to not scratch the marble.

How to Treat Stains on Marble

Getting stains on your marble surface is inevitable, no matter how hard you try. One thing you can do to give your marble some protection is by using a spray sealant at least once a month. What this will do is that it will give you a bit more time to clean up any messes and spills before they start staining.

So what happens in the event that you do spill something on your marble counter and it ends up creating a stain? Try rubbing hydrogen peroxide mixed with a few drops of ammonia on it and it will help to dissolve the stain.  Make sure to only add a few drops of ammonia as it is an acid and can damage your marble surface if you use too much. And just remember, if you are unable to remove a stain, it’s best to hire a professional to remove the stain for you.

Things You Should Avoid Doing

  • Never use harsh or abrasive scrubbers of rough-woven cloths on marble as they could scratch the surface.
  • Skip products that contain lemon, vinegar, or other acids as that can dull the stone
  • Stay away from abrasive creams or rust removers that contain hydrofluoric acid as these can damage your marble
  • Do not mix cleaning agents or chemicals in an attempt to clean your marble as the result can be toxic or lethal in some cases.
  • Before cleaning your marble, always test the cleaning agent on a small portion of the surface first to make sure that it does not damage the marble in any way
