When it comes to dress code, Wimbledon has its own rules implying that the outfit has to be a “suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white.” This is actually the very first rule that the Wimbledon tennis players have to follow. This rule applies as soon as they enter the court area.



Weeks before the Championship starts, players are supposed to report their wardrobe preferences to the tournament officials for approval. The wardrobe must go by the rules and has to be almost entirely white from head to toe. They are very strict about the color and don’t allow players changing it anyhow.

Non-White trim is allowed, but this hue is limited to areas for example it has to be on the neckline, sleeve cuff, outside seem of a pant, skirts or short leg. Also, all this can only be under a centimeter wide. Even the shoes are supposed to be completely white, without the allowance of a colored soles.

Ball Boys And Girls Are Hand Selected

There are approximately 250 Ball Boys and Girls (BBG’s), from 700 applicants, that work at the Championships, Wimbledon. It is not an easy job to be Wimbledon Ball-kid, these kids are properly hand selected. An average age of a BBG is 15 years old and they often spend two years as a BBG.

Everybody, even the elites, look at these Ball Boys and Girls in awe because they assist like athletes. They are the best at what they do. These kids are chosen from local schools in London after a rigorous training and selection program that continues for months.

There are four teams of six, that work at the top two courts, with one hour on and one hour off. After selection it is expected of them to be effortless on the courts and stand still for hours, thus hats off to these BBG’s.

Center Court is the main court that is only used for The Championships, Wimbledon and is considered to be the world’s most famous tennis court. It comes in regular use only during the two weeks that the Championships take place.



Centre Court is made with great specifications, with every precaution in case of any emergency, kept in mind. It has a retractable roof, that has been fitted for the Championships to not get delayed due to any reason, be it rain or dark conditions.

Wimbledon is the only grand slam event that is played on a grass surface. The courts are sown with 100% Perennial Ryegrass, since 2001, enhancing durability and toughening the grass to withstand the modern game. This grass is found at all the Wimbledon courts.

Expert Researches have shown that the grass’s cut height of 8mm, since 1995, is the ideal height for present day play.

They aren’t just any strawberries, they are specifically handpicked just a day before the game to ensure freshness. Over 61,000 pounds of strawberries are sold during the fortnight. Its craze can be calculated by the fact that 28,000 kg of them are eaten at the tournament each year.
