4 Healthy Fast Food Restaurants In New York City

Time has an interesting impact on things. In the olden days, food was just used to satisfy hunger. There are natural processes in the that provide energy to perform daily tasks. Today however, eating is associated with pleasure, experiences and most recently health consciousness. Commercial operations picked up the trend of people and their evolving outlook about food. This is when restaurants were born.

Now, food has become a crux of both art and variety. Restaurants specialize in their own variety of food. There are various fine dining, fast-casual, buffet and fast-food restaurants. New York being the heart of America, is no stranger to the food scene. The city has everything from vegan sushi to fashion girl favorites, from steaks to luscious desserts. Here are my top picks for healthy fast food restaurants in New York City.

1. Beyond Sushi

Sushi without the fish is becoming the talk of the town these days, especially in New York City. These lively and colorful creations at Beyond Sushi’s are flavorsome, flesh free and 100% vegan. These rolls include the haricot, with grilled haricot, black rice and carrots, served with soy mirin sauce and the mighty mushroom, with arugula, enoki and tofu. Also, the presentation is top-notch, with each piece having its own unique presence.

2. Blossom Du Jour

Created in 2010 as an on-the-go depot in Chelsea, Blossom Du Jour has expanded around the city ever since. Everything on offer is 100% vegan, healthy and prepared super-fast. Options include: sandwiches having inhouse grilled lemon chicken, lettuce, pesto, avocado, vegan mayo etc., various options of salads, beet burger with horseradish on gluten free bread, and many kinds of smoothies.

3. Ellary’s Greens

Ellary’s Greens was a brainchild of a young mother who wanted to gift her kids the best possible food, without spending hours in the kitchen or triple-digit dollars at the store. Named after the owner’s great-grandmother, this West Village restaurant serves foods quickly. The menu includes salmon burgers, shrimp scampi, bison strip-loin, sautéed baby bok choy, chickpea fries, and bacon mac and cheese, for every meal of the day.

4. Hu Kitchen

The food at Hu’s Kitchen is unprocessed, free of GMOs, and pre-industrial. Each and everything you get from here has ingredients that our great-great-grandparents would recognize and gladly satiate. The motto of this place is “Get back to human.” The menu here includes Jordy cakes, with honey, coconut, almonds, bananas, eggs, and seasonal fruit; roasted beet salad; wild meatloaf, with elk, eggs, pork/beef, homemade BBQ sauce, garlic, parsley, onions, and spices.

You vowed to eat healthier recently and then you remembered you live in New York City, and dining out is your favorite hobby. Don’t worry, these restaurants will keep you on track without making you feel like you’re in health-food purgatory. You won’t be feeling guilty about what you eat, and you won’t be waiting and waiting until you’re completely famished and annoyed. Instead, you can dig in,
feel great, and get going. These were my top four favorite restaurants for healthy fast food in New York City.
